Usually the first use is some kind of building, sometimes it's not. We use a lot of wood reclaimed from barns. Other times the wood comes from an old warehouse or textile mill. Some deconstruction projects were bridges, docks, trestles or vats. No matter the source we look for the best wood with the coolest features.

The structure is de-constructed one board and one beam at a time in reverse order of the building process. The wood is carefully handled to maintain the character and to avoid damage.

On the demolition site the wood is graded for best use and reasonably cleaned up of debris and metal. Boards and timbers that do not meet our high standards will remain on the site while the best wood is loaded up and shipped to our mill for further processing.

Since all of this wood has had a previous home it contains nails and other fasteners that need to be removed before any millwork is done. There is no secret here, just metal detectors and some basic tools, hammers, claws, chisels and etc. along with some sweat and blood we get the wood free enough of metal to mill, and in the process grade the wood a second time.

Although the wood is very old and well seasoned ambient moisture is gently drawn out unifying the boards moisture content and eradicating stray critters that possibly occupy the wood long after it offers much nutrient value.

The dry boards are ripped two edges with a laser guided saw to predetermined widths. For a third time the boards are graded with parts of the boards that won't make a cool and functional floor cut out leaving us with sound, solid and attractive boards to mill into flooring and other millwork.

Sized boards pass through the moulder which cuts the tongue and groove and back outs on the board and planes the face if the grade requires it. We have three of these precision machines that mill the tongue and groove to sizes within 5/1000ths of an inch which provides you with a floor that fits together easily but is still tight after installation.

Grades that have an all original face are then wire brushed to remove any loose wood, dirt and debris. Smooth face floors are sanded to 100 grit and floors that are hit and miss surfaced are wire brushed and sanded. We know of no other reclaimed wood floor company that offers these options much less provides them standard with every floor.

The floor boards are squared up on the ends and our graders remove any remaining undesirable areas.

We transport and deliver the wood in a variety of ways. In the picture we are loading up a full truck for delivery to multiple job sites. Other orders may be delivered by a less-than-truckload carrier. Most orders in Utah and the surrounding states we will deliver with our own truck or if you are in the neighborhood you can pick up your order.
